It could be my English blood, but I love muffins, biscuits, and scones! I’m a huge fan of baking powder and baking soda breads! They are so easy to make when you are in a hurry and looking for something yummy! When done right they are light, flaky, and a carb lovers dream come true! Last week I was looking for something to smother with my freshly made peach jam. These Peaches and Cream scones filled the bill! I think you’ll love them as much as we did!
I was busy canning peaches this week and helping my daughter dehydrate cinnamon apple slices. What to make for dinner was not high on my priority list. Not to mention, after canning all day, the last thing I wanted to do was cook! What I needed was a meal I could toss into the crock pot that morning and forget about it till dinner time. I have been craving a chicken and wild rice soup! I’ve seen a lot of recipes for them but, they all had a lot of “steps” and I was looking for a “lazy soup”! So, I decided to make my own! This creamy chicken and wild rice soup is the result! Thanks to my handy-dandy crock pot, the house smelled heavenly all day…almost like Thanksgiving! This is my new favorite “go to” soup recipe for the upcoming cold Fall and Winter months! It’s delicious! Seriously… It’s REALLY delicious and SO easy! You’re going to love it and so will all the other birdies at your Nest! Come take a peek…
I’ve been dying to make this salad and share it with y’all! It’s my very favorite Fall salad and it’s out of this world! Tangy blue cheese, fruity sliced pears, creamy avocado, and crunchy candied pecans are all pulled together with an amazing mustard garlic vinaigrette dressing! If your mouth has been looking for a flavor explosion this is it! It’s so easy to make and so impressive to serve. I love to serve this salad during the Holidays but, truth be told, it’s great for week day lunch with friends! You will impress everyone when you make this salad…just be sure to invite me over when you do!
If you can boil water and love seafood… I have the perfect end of summer dish for you and the birds at your Nest! I’ve dreamt of making this meal for as long as I can remember and decided this Labor Day was the day! A seafood boil is easy, fun and mouth-wateringly delicious! The key is using the freshest ingredients you can find. Especially the seafood! You are going to want to squeeze this in before summer is over! It’s going to be our newest family tradition! Yeah, it’s THAT good! Best part…I’ve scaled the size of the normal boil down in case you want to make it for “a table of two”!
I love our tradition of Sunday Family Dinners with our married children! It brings us great joy to sit around the table and share a family meal together. I love to find amazing side dishes to serve to my “meat and potato” guys. This old family favorite Cheesy Party Potato Casserole is extra yummy because of the crunchy corn flake topping!
Today I’m sharing a wonderful Cherry Crumb Coffee Cake. Yum! I’m a coffee cake fan! Always have been. What makes coffee cake… coffee cake? The batter is heavier than your usual cake batter. It’s one of the reason’s the “bundt” pan was invented and became popular in the 1950’s. The hole in the center allowed for the heavier batter to cook all the way through without having the center still “doughy” and uncooked. They also generally do not have frosting. The tradition of coffee cake came from the Danish around the 17th century when it became custom to have a sweet cake with their coffee. Maybe it’s the English blood that runs through my veins but, whatever the reason…I just know I L.O.V.E. a good, easy to make, coffee cake and…THIS is all that and more! Come take a peek…ya know ya want to!
It’s beginning to feel like Fall! With school starting back up and the leaves changing color, I’ve been craving good old home style comfort food! The kind Grandma use to make. This Chicken Rice casserole has long been a family favorite and fits the bill perfectly! Even your picky eaters are going to love this simple easy to make casserole.
I’m sharing my “Nest’s” favorite dinner roll recipe! It’s a copy cat of the Lion House recipe that my sister-in-law, Debbie, shared with me years ago. It makes the most wonderful traditional dinner rolls you’ll ever have! They are huge, fluffy, and melt in your mouth moist! Slap some butter and raspberry jam on them and it’s the next best thing to heaven on earth! The best part…you make the dough in your bread machine! WoooHooo! You remember bread machines right?
After a weekend spent with my favorite Carb buddies I decided it was time to find my inner carnivore! I’m sharing one of my all time favorite pork
