Sharing is caring!

A Non-Alcoholic version of Disney’s Passion Fruit Julep! It’s light and fruity with subtle hints of fresh mint, from the homemade mint simple syrup, with just a splash of fizz from club soda. It’s the perfect refreshing summer drink!

Continuing with our Week of Disneyland “Copy Cat” Recipes, is this version of their Spring Passion Fruit Mint Julep!

My favorite place in all of Disneyland is New Orleans’ Square! I love the vibe. Sitting on the patio at the French Market looking across at Tom Sawyer Island (That’s what it was called when I was kid! A hundred years ago!) as the Steamboat goes by! It seems like another time and place!

When it’s hot and your thirsty there’s nothing better than a Disneyland Mint Julep from the Mint Julep Bar…and of course a bag of beignets! (Those delightful powdery treats are wicked good!)

In recent years they have branched out from the traditional lemon-lime julep, into other flavors. The possibilities with this basic recipe are endless. Kudos’ for Disney for tapping into that creativity! (That mouse knows his stuff! Lol)

I had never, ever, had a Mint Julep! Since they are traditionally made with alcohol, crème de mint to be exact, and this is a “dry” nest…stands to reason how I’ve hit this ripe old age without joining in the “Julep-ee”. (Yep! Just made up that word!)

I’ll admit that Mint Juleps are not for everyone. My husband wasn’t a huge fan of the Disney version. I, however, loved the hints of mint with lime and passion fruit. It was so invigorating and was just the “pick-me-up” I needed that afternoon.

Recreating this “mocktail” was super fun! (Especially the taste testing! I love my job!) Twists were added to make this my own, humbly…I think my version is better. Just a few simple ingredients and you have a fantastic drink.

How To Make A Disneyland Passion Fruit Mint Julep

What you’ll need to make Two Passion Fruit mocktails

  • 2 cups Passion Fruit (I used Welch’s)
  • 4 Tablespoons Simple Mint Syrup
  • 7.5 ounce Club Soda
  • 2 Cups crushed ice
  • Mint for garnish

Ingredients for Simple Syrup

  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Cup Water
  • .75 ounces of fresh cut mint (one .75 oz. package)

How to Make Fresh Mint Simple Syrup

In a medium sauce pan, over medium high heat, add 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup water, and all but one sprig of mint.

Mint, sugar, and water in medium sauce pan.

Bring the mixture to a low boil and simmer for 10 minutes, or until sugar is dissolved. Stirring frequently.

Using a wooden spoon, or a spatula, press the mint up against the side of the pan to extract extra mint into the simple syrup.

Turn off heat and cool for 5–10 minutes!

NOTE: The longer the mint sits in the syrup the stronger the flavor will be. I let mine sit for 5 minutes before straining.

Place a coffee filter inside a strainer and place over a bowl. Pour cooled syrup through strainer.

TIP: You can double, even triple the simple syrup, store in an airtight container to use whenever needed.

Mixing Passion Fruit Mint Julep

Fill two, 16 oz. goblets, or larger, with crushed ice. Add 1 cup Passion Fruit Juice per glass.

Goblet with ice adding passion fruit.

Add 2-3 Tablespoons Mint Simple Syrup per glass. I use 2 Tablespoons per glass, but if you prefer a stronger mint flavor I recommend using 3 Tablespoons.

Adding Simple Syrup to Passion Fruit Juice.

Divide 7.5 ounces of club soda between the two glasses. 1/2 cup or less per glass. Club soda helps cut the sweetness of the Passion Fruit juice and simple syrup, plus adds just a hint of carbonation. If you want less carbonation, add less club soda.

That’s the entire recipe for this drink! Easy, quick, and “simple”…but LOADED with refreshing flavors!

Stir each drink well to combine ingredients. Garnish with fresh mint sprigs, and fresh fruit, if desired.

I like to add a colorful festive paper straw. Makes me feel like I’m on vacation. (Don’t we all need a vacation…or at least to feel like we’re on one for half-a-second! Shhhh… I‘m sipping and listening to tropical tunes!)
