Pulled Pork Sandwiches With Classic Cole Slaw

Sharing is caring!

Easy and delicious smoke flavored pulled pork is piled high on top of a sandwich bun with BBQ sauce and sweet classic cole slaw. It’s an AMAZING Pulled Pork Sandwich with Classic Cole Slaw!

One of my favorite “go-to” recipes for extended family dinners or really large gatherings are BBQ pork sandwiches. I’m a huge fan of BBQ. I love it…it doesn’t always love me! To be honest… I feel slightly betrayed.

I figured I couldn’t be the only one with this “love/hate” relationship. So… When we had one of our big gatherings I decided to try something different. Rather than adding the BBQ sauce to the pork…I would do smoked pulled pork and have BBQ sauce on the side.

That way if the “hate” was stronger than the “love”, in some of our guests, they could decide how much to put on their sandwich. It worked out so beautifully that I’ve been doing it this way ever since!

Let’s talk “Piggy” for a minute! You can have a pulled pork sandwich with just pork and BBQ sauce. You can also live in a tent and sleep on the hard ground with rocks in your back all night long…but why would ya?!!!

Especially if the Hilton is right next door! (Get my drift here?) If you want to have a superb pulled pork sandwich… You throw a nice big scoop of classic cole slaw on top! THAT my friends is how you have a true Southern Pulled Pork Sandwich. Howwwdy!

This is a super simple, super delicious meal. Which warrants that I keep this post sweet and simple too!

How To Make Pulled Pork Sandwiches with Classic Cole Slaw

In your slow cooker place a 2-3 pound boneless pork roast.

TIP: I purchase the package at Costco that has 4 small pork roast! They are lean and juicy! My absolute favorite.

Sprinkle the roast with garlic salt, coarse black pepper, and 1/2 tsp. liquid smoke. Add 2 cups of beef broth. Yep…BEEF broth!

If you want to go crazy you can add one can of Dr.Pepper instead of the beef broth. It will make for a sweeter pulled pork, but it’s good!

Cover and cook on low for 5–6 hours. Shred the roast in the slow cooker and allow it to sit in the juices for about 20 minutes.

An hour before the roast is done make the Classic Cole Slaw. It needs to chill for one hour. The recipe is below on the printable.

This is one of the best classic restaurant cole slaw recipes around! It’s easy and so delicious!

Time to assemble your delicious pulled pork sandwich! We love Famous Dave’s Rich and Sassy BBQ sauce. It’s a really great sauce.

A little sweet, a little bold, a little sassy! It’s a nice thick sauce ta’ boot! Perfect for these sandwiches…BUT… you can use whatever BBQ sauce is your favorite.

Be sure to pick a good quality bun. You can toast them or not. I like them soft and squishy, so I don’t toast our sandwich buns. Place a large pile of drained pulled pork on the bottom bun.

Top with BBQ sauce…or not…depending on your relationship with the stuff. Add a heaping scoop of classic cole slaw on top and place the other half of the bun on top!

Time to lick your lips and dig in! Don’t you worry about the juices dripping down your wrist. That’s what tongues napkins are for! Lol

Classic Pulled Pork Sandwiches with homemade fries

I served our sandwiches with homemade oven baked Parmesan garlic steak fries. (They were amazing! I need to get that recipe on the blog… I‘ll work on that!) and a side of fresh strawberries. It was a wonderful spring time dinner!

I love an easy, delicious meal…don’t you? A bonus to that love/hate BBQ sauce relationship is that you can use the leftovers for another meal. Like Pork Taquito’s or burritos! Hooray!

This is one fantastic pulled pork sandwich. One the whole family will love…even those that aren’t buddy-buddy with my friend BBQ sauce!
